Samantha Bowe to Receive Emerging Athena Award

Recent Ohio University Lancaster Campus graduate Samantha Bowe will receive the Emerging Athena Award at the annual Lancaster Fairfield Chamber of Commerce event on August 26 at the Lancaster Country Club.

Samantha Bowe auditions with Dr. Candice Thomas-Maddox for the Campus television show "OUr View."

Bowe, an organizational communication major, brought her military background and commitment to her studies as well as her activities on Campus. She was a member of the student leadership program, L.E.A.D.; served as a student host on “OUr View;” worked in the Student Services office; and interned with the Thank You Foundation and at the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce.
Helen Mayle, director of the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce, praised Bowe for her vision and described her as organized, enthusiastic, and task driven. “If Sam encountered a hurdle, she found a way to jump over it.” Mayle enjoys working with students because “they are sponges, soaking up information and turning it into what works best.”
Bowe completed research projects, assisted in designing surveys and a training seminar, recruited fellow students to volunteer for the local Gift of Time event.
Candice Thomas-Maddox, acting associate dean at the Lancaster Campus and professor of communication, echoed Bowe’s initiative and leadership, in and out of the classroom. “One of Samantha’s greatest qualities is her passion for giving back to her Campus and her community.”
Bowe has been admitted to the University’s graduate program in Organizational Communication.

The Emerging Athena Award recognizes creativity, initiative and collaborative leadership style. Athena’s mission includes inspiring women to achieve their full potential and supporting, developing and honoring women leaders.
