OU Lancaster Adds Human Services Technology Degree Program

Ohio University Lancaster Campus added Human Services Technology to its growing list of associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs.

An information session about the program, the admissions process and financial aid will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 6:00 p.m., room 414 Brasee Hall, Lancaster Campus, according to Candice Thomas-Maddox, acting associate dean.
The Human Services Technology (HST) associate’s degree program prepares students for employment in many agency and service settings, such as mental health, social services, and corrections. HST graduates are employed as case workers, case managers, mental health technicians, geriatric aides, chemical dependency counselor assistants, social work assistants, child care advocates and in many other positions.
Students will take courses in crisis intervention, case management, psychology, sociology, group dynamics, behavior management and community resources, and complete 300 hours of practicum experience with a local agency or program.
Instructors bring professional work experience in the human service field to their classrooms and conduct their classes in small group settings.
Graduates earn the Associate of Applied Science in Human Services Technology.  Many HST graduates also opt to continue their studies in human service-related fields such as counseling or social work.
For more information, please plan to attend the information session or contact Barbara Mahaffey, assistant professor and coordinator, Human Services Technology, 740.775.2771, or mahaffey@ohio.edu.
