The Accounting Technology program at the Ohio University Lancaster Campus offers a two-year program for accounting technicians leading to the Associate in Applied Business Degree. Program graduates are prepared to enter the workforce in junior accountant positions in a number of sectors, after fulfilling the degree requirements of accounting technology career choices and completing Applied Business core courses plus some electives.
The program provides students with a background in business administration while emphasizing the development of skills in accounting. Students have the opportunity to develop abilities necessary to perform tasks in most phases of accounting. Specifically, some of the numerous career opportunities available to program graduates include:
- Account Analyst
- Accounting Clerk
- Accounts Receivable Clerk
- Accounts Payable Clerk
- Insurance Clerk
- Payroll Clerk
- Junior Accountant
- Staff Accountant
- Staff Auditor
Because Accounting Technology students attend many classes with students from other majors, they are exposed to the broadening experience open to all those attending the campus. The only exceptions are the more advanced accounting courses required of students in the Accounting Technology major. The same responsibilities and standards of academic achievement apply to all Ohio University Lancaster Campus students, regardless of their major.
Students are able to complete the program in two years with careful planning, although the time required to obtain a degree can vary greatly, depending on each student’s work schedule and course load. Students who work while they pursue their education or individuals with other outside responsibilities can enroll part-time and attend classes scheduled in the late afternoon or evening.
